PhDs and Graduate School Computer Sciences

Funding your graduate studies

Scholarships

The Department of Computer Science awards a limited number of scholarships for PhD students. This scholarship amounts to 600 EUR/month during Phase 1 of the PhD program. In Phase 2, the scholarship amounts to 1.468 EUR/month (including a grant of 103 EUR for material and equipment).
Scholarships are awarded on a competition base.

Employment as research or teaching assistent

Many research groups have project-related funding available. Project-related funding offers more opportunities for travel and work within a team on a well-defined project, but it also provides less flexibility than a scholarship as topics are predetermined by the project.
In addition to funded projects, there might be other sources of funding. For example, there are position that combine teaching and research activities. This usually requires the ability to teach and interact with students in German.
Open positions are posted on the groups' website. For further information, you should ask the respective contact person.

External funding

The German Academic Exchange service (DAAD) finances study by foreign students in Germany. Choose your country from the list of "International sites" (upper right corner) on their homepage for more information.
